FDA & Insurance Guidelines for EECP
Enhanced External Counterpulsation (EECP) is a safe, non-surgical therapy that requires no medication. It is cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and approved by Medicare. EECP is an alternative option for people who suffer with advanced cardiovascular disease such as congestive heart failure and Class III or Class IV angina pectoris. For this type of disease, our clients have serious chest pain even from minimal exertion with severe shortness of breath. When someone suffers from advanced heart failure or advanced angina, they are considered inoperable and at the end stage of life with cardiovascular disease. EECP has helped many of our clients who come to us with advanced cardiovascular disease resume an improved quality of life.

How EECP Works
EECP improves the flow of blood to the heart, thus allowing the body to naturally form new small blood vessels called collaterals. These collaterals create a NaturalBypass® around blocked arteries. EECP works by squeezing blood from the legs upward to the heart while the heart is at rest.
The therapy involves laying on a padded therapy table outfitted with large blood pressure-like cuffs which wrap around your legs and buttocks. These cuffs inflate and deflate at specific times between your heartbeats where an electro cardiogram (ECG) is used to set the timing of the inflation/deflation intervals. The painless compression caused by the inflation of the cuffs improve circulation throughout the body.
Here’s a step-by-step process of the EECP therapy experience:
The Sara Soulati® Method of EECP® for End-Stage – Angina Therapy
EECP reduces or eliminate effects of angina pectoris as a result of ischemic heart disease (heart attack) and blockage of the arteries.
The therapy increases sheer force of reversed blood flow and secretes vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), a hormone that stimulates growth of new
endothelial growth factor (VEGF), a hormone that stimulates growth of new arteries called collaterals and that contributes to angiogenesis (the formation of new collaterals for blood to flow around blockages).
EECP helps stop angina pectoris by assisting the body in growing new arteries, creating a NaturalBypass®. It is an alternative to heart bypass surgery and stents.
About EECP At End-Stage Cardiovascular Disease
The following graphs indicate the effectiveness of EECP for end-stage of cardiovascular disease. As published by the Journal of Cardiology in 2000, notice the dramatic reduction in the most severe class III and IV angina classifications where just after 35 sessions of EECP, most patients were reclassified to classes I and II.
About EECP Worldwide
There are more than 900 academic institutions and independent physician practices throughout the U.S. and the world that use EECP therapy for end-stage cardiovascular disease. Learn more about EECP at many of these institutions:
There are some cases about EECP when the therapy is not right for you. If you have any of the following indications, you may not be cleared for EECP therapy.
Here are those contraindications:
- Moderate to severe aortic valve insufficiency
- Presence of documented aortic aneurysm requiring surgical repair
- Bleeding diathesis
- Active thrombophlebitis/ Blood clots
- Recent surgical intervention
- Arrhythmia that interfere with machine triggering
- Severe lower extremity vaso-occlusive disease
The following indications are precautions prior to EECP therapy:
- Clients with blood pressure higher than 180/110 mmHg should be controlled prior to therapy with EECP
- Clients with a heart rate of more than 120 bpm should be controlled prior to therapy with EECP
